Mount Pleasant Cemetery

Virginia City's first true cemetery was created in 1860, prior to this a few were buried next to the Catholic church, but the number of dead quickly outgrew this space. The solution was the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, known also as the Flowery, Flowery Hill, or simply Pioneer Cemetery. Some claim it had a firemen's section at some point, but little else is known of the cemetery's history or how many were interred there. Within a few years Mount Pleasant was replaced by the Silver Terrace Cemeteries due to its difficult to access location, and it was completely abandoned by the turn of the century. Though today it is best known as the purported final resting place of famed prostitute Julia Bulette, a handful of other nameless graves can also be located.
