Major's Place

Major's Place, originally Major Woods' or Major Woods' Place, was established by James Walter "Major" Woods in the 1930s. Originally a service station and restaurant, there were also cabins for tourists. About 1943, Woods sold his station to Lester Pierce, who operated it until 1962. Eventually the name was shortened to just 'Major's Place'. Today it still functions as a bar, restaurant, motel, and RV park, but fuel is not available.
